This large antique French wooden trough (or dough) bowl dates from the end of the nineteenth century. Likely made from beechwood, it has been beautifully carved and has weathered over time, including some charring from where it has been left a little to close to the flame, adding to its rustic nature.
Wooden vessels such as this were originally used to mix bread dough. Today, they make magnificent centerpieces in tablescapes, filled with fruit, ornaments and foliage, or serve as attractive vessels for storing produce or other items on shelves.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
